Global Climate & Health Alliance , 2025

The Climate and Health Alliance (CAHA) has launched a new clean air roadmap aimed at guiding governments in their efforts to combat air pollution and its devastating health impacts. Released ahead of the WHO Conference on Air Pollution and Health, the roadmap emphasizes that clean air is a fundamental human right—not a privilege.
The roadmap outlines strategic actions for policymakers, including integrating air quality into health and climate plans, strengthening air monitoring systems, and implementing evidence-based policies to reduce emissions from key sectors like energy, transport, and agriculture. It also highlights the co-benefits of air quality interventions for climate mitigation and public health, such as reduced rates of asthma, cardiovascular disease, and premature deaths.
Developed through consultation with health professionals, scientists, and environmental advocates, this tool aims to build political will and provide a clear path for countries to reduce air pollution while advancing health equity. With air pollution contributing to over 7 million premature deaths annually, the clean air roadmap is both timely and critical.
Governments are encouraged to adopt the roadmap’s principles and integrate them into their national health and climate strategies, reinforcing that ensuring clean air for all is a vital step toward healthier, more sustainable societies.
