The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is the national meteorological service. It provides meteorological information for weather-sensitive sectors, warns against severe weather phenomena that causes damage to life and property, provides meteorological statistics required for agriculture, water resource management, industries, oil exploration and other key sectors, and conducts and promotes research in meteorology and allied disciplines.
